"ARTFUL, ENERGETIC, and ENTIRELY ENGAGING" - Theatertalk Buffalo
Fauci and Kramer
Written by Drew Fornarola
Directed by Khanisha Foster
Starring Sal Viscuso and Jack Plotnick
Co-Presented by Celebration Theatre and Los Angeles LGBT Center
“America's Doctor" Anthony Fauci and playwright/activist Larry Kramer had an unlikely and complicated friendship. In the 90s, both were fighting the AIDS crisis from opposite ends of the political spectrum.
After Kramer's death during COVID, in May of 2020, his spirit visits Fauci one last time. In the privacy of Fauci's home office, the duo discuss art, power, progress, and where we go from here. FAUCI AND KRAMER is a heartfelt new play that takes a serious, and sometimes comical, look at this famously complex relationship.
Join us for a West Coast Premiere, one-night-only Staged Reading and Conversation of this brilliant new play by Drew Fornarola (NY Times Critics' Pick STRAIGHT, Off-Broadway’s The Ghost of John McCain), brought to life by film, tv, and stage veterans Sal Viscuso (Father Flotsky on “Soap”, original The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, "M.A.S.H.", Spaceballs, recurring “Scandal”) and Jack Plotnick (Gods and Monsters, Broadway’s Disaster!, Space Station 76, cult hit Girls Will Be Girls, recurring “Grace and Frankie”). Khanisha Foster (Celebration Theatre’s acclaimed A New Brain, KCRep, Virginia Stage) returns to direct.
Celebrating New Works is Celebration Theatre's long-running new play reading series designed to shine a light on new and emerging voices within the LGBTQIA+ community and the stories about/for them.
