Trans Lineage: Rites of Passage
After last year’s sold-out run, Celebration Theatre’s beloved Trans Lineage project returns with the world premiere of Rites of Passage. Now in its fourth year, these bold new works trace the moments and thresholds that shape us and our lineages—personal, cultural, spiritual, and historical. From a Black transmasculine griot reclaiming ancestral memory, to a transfeminine nun confronting faith and isolation during the plague, to a gay Korean trans man trying to outrun aging and “twink death,” this electric trilogy of one-acts spans centuries and continents to explore lineage, ritual, and transformation. What rites of passage do we inherit and which are denied to us? What worlds are made possible when we invent or reimagine them?
Rise of a King
Vico Ortiz—aka “Jim Jimenez” from Max’s cult-hit Our Flag Means Death—presents the West Coast Premiere of their first solo show, RISE OF A KING. A cosmic, gender-bending joyride, this burlesque extravaGAYnza blends drag, astrology, and raw storytelling to untangle the mess and magic of growing up—while rewriting the rules of who gets to wear the crown.

Tales of the Transcestors: The Divine
A must-see World Premiere that reimagines folklore, mythologies, and spiritual guides across time and cultures. Through three interwoven stories rooted in Native Hawaiian tradition (Kapaemahu), Islamic mysticism (djinn), and spiritual alchemy (the Rebis), the production unearths personal and cultural histories to reclaim trans wisdom, healing, power, and joy. Tales of the Transcestors: The Divine captures the tension between inherited memory and lived experience, building a portal for audiences to enter a “world between worlds”—where lineage, desire, time, and space are fluid and ever-shifting.

Fauci and Kramer
“America’s Doctor” Anthony Fauci and playwright/activist Larry Kramer had an unlikely and complicated friendship. In the 90s, both were fighting the AIDS crisis from opposite ends of the political spectrum. After Kramer’s death during COVID, in May of 2020, his spirit visits Fauci one last time. In the privacy of Fauci’s home office, the duo discuss art, power, progress, and where we go from here. FAUCI AND KRAMER is a heartfelt new play that takes a serious, and sometimes comical, look at this famously complex relationship.

A New Brain
A timely revival of the Finn & Lapine show about second chances and the urgency of art, Celebration Theatre brings us into the world of this queer musical of “captivating eccentricity” (New York Times) with an intimate experience of pathos, humor, and just a little bit of magic—to bring us back to life.
